Google Chrome for Mac

Google Chrome for Mac

Man this thing is fast! It boots fast, loads web pages quickly, and brings up shiny images and things make me smile quickly. There really isn’t much to say on the browser. It’s not perfect, but I like what I see. It has a smooth feel to it and generally similar funcitonality to IE, FireFox and Safari. Personally, I find the way that Chrome looks more appealing than that of FireFox, IE,  and Safari. It has a minimalistic feel to it an only displays the fields that you need. Also with it being a Google browser you can search right within the address bar (this way you dont have another search bar taking real estate on the screen).

BUUUT… right now it’s just a browser. That’s it. Nothing more. You don’t have access fancy scripts or extensions you can install to make it a comprable browsing experience to what you may have been used to with other browser. Earlier this week I tweeted that Mac extensions could be installed with this work around. I tried it about an hour ago and it doesn’t work. Let me know if you have any luck. I got a little sad after that and figured I’d have to wait a bit before Chrome could be my default browser. However, I just read that The Goog announced official extensions for Chrome on Windows and to make me happy again they’re going to release these extensions for the Mac version by the end of this week. You can read it yourself here.

I’m betting by the end of this week Chrome will be my default browser. Sorry, I really don’t know what else to say about this. Unless you’ve never used a browser before you’ll be able to install this and not miss a beat. It’s a very modern browser with:

  • tabbed browsing
  • skins/themes
  • speed dial view
  • ability to save passwords
  • text remembering
  • set desired homepage
  • set download folder
  • access to browsing history
  • ability to clear private data

Right now its main selling point is that it’s the fastest damn browser out there. It really is. Click and boom. Lightweight and faster than Speedy Gonzales. Check it out. You can download Chrome and other Google products for Mac at www.google.com/mac.

I like the tab shearing. Grab a tab, drag it around. Drag it out of the current window to create a new window. Drag is back so it can have a tab reunion with it’s old friends. It’s much smoother than Firefox’s shearing, which felt like a hacked afterthought.
