iCommute SF Lite
November 2nd, 2009
I love this iPhone app. I live in San Francisco and use public transportation quite a bit. This app simplifies both MUNI and BART schedules. Normally, I would open up www.nextmuni.com to find out when the next bus was coming to the stop I desired. If I wanted to take a look at BART schedules I’d go to www.511.org and click through a few pages to get what I was looking for.
Not that going to the websites was a pain in the ass, I always wanted something cleaner and a one stop shop. With iCommute SF I get real time updates for MUNI and BART in one app. No more need for two book marks. Also it has a slick little feature using the location services of the phone. For example, I was looking to take the 22 from Fillmore and Chestnut to the Haight. I open the app, select the San Francisco MUNI menu, select the 22 and the app will automatically pull up the bus stop nearest to your location. Some may not be as excited as I am about this feature but it’s one less thing I need to select so I think it’s a plus. Lastly, it also has built in Google Maps. I think this app would be great for people who have lived here their whole life or if someone was visiting for the weekend.
There are several other apps out there that provide a similar service that iCommute SF Lite does but none of them are free. iCommute SF Lite does have a full version which gives you all the Bay Area transportation options. You can purchase that for $2.99 from the iTunes Store. Act quick because it’s on sale right now. It’s normally $4.99. If you are like me and only need BART and MUNI pick up the lite version here.
